Accessibility

Five accessibility checks you can do on your website in ten minutes

Five quick checks to spot whether your site works for everyone.

Accessibility is not only for large organisations. A few quick checks show whether your site works for everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader or a small screen.

  1. Zoom the page to 200%. Can you still read and use everything, with no text cut off?
  2. Put your mouse away and use only the Tab key. Can you reach every link, button and form field, and see where you are?
  3. Check your main photos have a short text description (alt text) that says what the photo shows.
  4. Check text contrast. Light grey on white is hard to read for many people. Free tools such as the WebAIM contrast checker will tell you.
  5. Check every form field has a visible label, not just grey text that disappears when you type.

If something fails, note it down. Many fixes are small. This is a practical checklist, not a full audit or legal advice.
