Bookings · Note 08
Are bookings arriving after you close?
Count after-hours booking requests and test a booking link.
For some barbers and salons, Instagram DMs are the booking system. It feels personal, and regulars like it.
The challenge is timing. Many people plan their week in the evening, after you have closed. If a message gets no answer, they may book elsewhere, and you would not know.
Who this is for
Barbers, salons, nail techs, brow and lash studios: anyone taking most bookings by DM, WhatsApp or phone.
Check it this week
- Look at your DMs from the last two weeks. How many booking requests arrived after closing time?
- How long did those people wait for a reply? Did any of them never come in?
- Ask three regulars: "If you could book online at 10pm, would you?"
An example
For example, suppose you close at 7 and a customer messages at 9:40 asking for Saturday morning. By the next morning they may already have booked somewhere with an online calendar, and from your side it just looks like someone who stopped replying.
What usually fixes it
A booking link in your Instagram bio and on your website where customers see your real free slots and pick one. You set the rules: which services, how long each takes, breaks, days off. Depending on the booking system, the link may show available slots or send a request for confirmation. Set and test the real status before calling it booked. You get a notification when a booking comes in.
You don't have to stop taking DMs. Regulars can keep messaging.
